Requiem service for Russian soldiers who fell in the battle for the liberation of Bulgaria from the Turkish yoke was celebrated in Sofia

On March 3, Bulgaria celebrates its National holiday – the Day of Liberation from the Turkish yoke. According to tradition, physicians and other medical staff who died in the battle for the liberation of Bulgaria is celebrated on March 2. Many residents of Sofia and representatives of the authorities gathered on that day at the Doctors' Monument. Hieromonk Zotik (Gayevsky), acting treasurer of the metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Sofia celebrated the Litia for the Dead. The ceremony at the monument to the medical staff who fell in the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-78 included official speeches and the laying of the wreaths from the Bulgarian President and the Prime Minister and from the Russian Embassy in Sofia.
The next day marking the 132nd anniversary of the liberation from the Turkish dominion, requiem service was celebrated at the Russian part of the Sofia central cemetery. Many people prayed for the Russian soldiers and for all those who laid down their life for the liberation of Bulgaria. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Bulgaria Yury Isakov attended requiem service.
