Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church convenes in Kiev

21 февраля 2012 года в Киево-Печерской лавре On 21 February 2012, the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) held its session in the Laura of the Caves in Kiev under the chairmanship of Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmail, the eldest by consecration permanent member of the Synod, as His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine could not chair the session because of his illness.

Members of the Synod stated with gratitude to God that His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir, who had been seriously ill, is recovering, and invited believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, to pray zealously to the Lord for his health.

The Synod considered actions of Archbishop Alexander of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky and Vishnyovoy, vicar of the Kievan Metropolia, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC, permanent member of the UOC Holy Synod and editor-in-chief of the official website of the UOK. After the discussion it was decided to remove him from all his posts.

Archbishop Anthony of Borispol, vicar of the Kievan Metropolia, rector of the Kievan Theological Academy and Seminary, was appointed chairman of the Department for External Church Relations.

Archpriest Georgy Kovalenko was appointed editor-in-chief of the official website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He is placed under Archbishop Mitrofan of Belaya Tserkov and Boguslav, chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The Holy Synod has taken decisions on the life of monasteries and convents of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
