Council of Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate takes place in Tallinn

The Council of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (EOCMP) took place on 15 May 2012. Before the session, Metropolitan Korniliy of Tallinn and All Estonia and Bishop Lazar of Narva and Prichudje celebrated Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky in Tallinn. Almost all clerics of the EOCMP concelebrated.
The Council began its work under the chairmanship of Metropolitan Korniliy at St. Vladimir’s side-chapel of the Cathedral. Taking part in the session were the EOCMP clerics as well as laymen, one from every parish.
Metropolitan Korniliy presented the key report in which he summed up the achievements of 2011, the most important of which was the establishment of the Narva and Prichudje diocese within the EOCVP.
A new Statute was the second item of the agenda. Due to the establishment of the new diocese and to some other changes it was necessary to write additions for the current Statute of the EOCMP. The document was adopted and will be submitted for approval to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
The next item on the agenda was election of a new Synod that takes place every three years. All bishops of the EOCMP are members of the Synod. After voting, the following were elected members of the Synod: archpriest Oleg Vrona, hieromonk Iona (Golovastikov), archpriest Iyvenaliy Kaarma, and archpriest Vitaliy Gavrilov, as well as Sergei Myannik and Rostislav Rumyantsev.
Reports on the work of the Department for religious education and catechization, the Department for social ministry and the Department for publications were delivered. Financial account for 2011 was presented and the 2012 budget was approved.
