Holy Synod of Ukrainian Orthodox Church holds its regular session in Kiev
On 25 August 2012, the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church held an enlarged session in the residence of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at the Holy Assumption Laura of the Caves in Kiev under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine.
The members of the Holy Synod discussed the celebrations held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Kharkov Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and of the 20th anniversary of His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir’s primatial ministry and expressed their gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia for taking part in the celebrations.
According to the decision of the Holy Synod six men of God were canonized as locally venerated saints of the Kherson diocese; St Boniface (Feofanovsky) of Kiev was included in the Synaxis of the Saints of Kiev.
The Holy Synod has taken a decision to establish the Voznesensk diocese. Hegumen Alexy (Shpakov), a cleric of the Kiev diocese, was elected Bishop of Voznesensk and Pervomaisk.
Members of the Holy Synod discussed the construction progress of the Cathedral of the Resurrection in Kiev.
Archimandrite Varsanofy (Skliar) was appointed Bishop of Borodianka, a vicar of the Kiev metropolia. Archimandrite Damian (Davydov), a cleric of the Kiev diocese, was appointed Bishop of Fastov, a vicar of the Kiev metropolia.
In connection with the upcoming elections to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament), the Holy Synod adopted an Address to the Orthodox citizens of Ukraine.
The Holy Synod has also taken decisions on the life of dioceses, monasteries, and theological schools of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
