Patriarch Kirill celebrates the memory of St. Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostles
On July 28, 2014, the commemoration day of the Holy Prince Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostles and the Day of the Baptism of Rus’, a public holiday in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral Church of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.
His Holiness was assisted by a great assembly of bishops and priests, among them representatives of Local Orthodox Church to the Patriarchal See of Moscow. Among the worshippers were high church officials and mothers superior.
The service was attended by the Supreme Commander in Chief of the Interior Ministry Internal Forces Colonel General V. Zolotov. There were over 1200 officers and soldiers of the ministry’s Internal Forces.
The service was broadcast by the Soyuz TV network.
St. Vladimir is the heavenly patron of Russia’s Interior Ministry Internal Forces. Traditionally, the Interior Ministry soldiers assemble on his commemoration day in the Church of Christ the Saviour, bringing over their main icon, the image of St. Vladimir consecrated by Patriarch Alexy II back in 2002, from their headquarters to the Church of Christ the Saviour to be venerated by the faithful.
After the Prayer of Fervent Supplication, Patriarch Kirill lifted up a prayer for peace in Ukraine.
After the liturgy a thanksgiving to St. Vladimir was held, and the Primate of the Russian Church delivered a homily.
Colonel General V. Zolotov addressed the congregation, greeting the faithful on the occasion of the commemoration day of St. Vladimir.
