On September 24, 2014, an exhibition “Imperial Porcelain Works. Dialogue of Epochs” was opened at the Grand Palace of the Tsaritsino culture preserve. It is timed to the 270th anniversary of the Imperial Porcelain Works and the 250th anniversary of the Hermitage.
The opening was attended by Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations, Ms. V Sigaeva, chair of the META foundation for education, Mr. N. Samoilenko, director of the Tsaritsino culture preserve, Ms. S. Adaskina, Hermitage principal custodian, Mr. N. Tsvetkov, chairman of the board of directors of URALSIB financial corporation, and Ms. G Tsvetkova, chair of the board of directors of the Imperial Porcelain Works. Speeches were made on this remarkable occasion.
Greeting the guests on behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Metropolitan Hilarion said that the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church paid special attention to the development of culture and education as areas in which the Church maintains active cooperation with the state and secular society. He underlined that the revival of tradition and the development of culture would be impossible without the help of the state and sponsorship as a major source of non-governmental support.
“The cooperation carried out today between the Church, society and state cannot but is based on firm moral principles. We all should be aware of responsibility for our country, not only for its present but also its future. It is impossible to preserve and develop the country if our entire work is not based on firm moral principles which have been preached by the Church for centuries”, he said.
After the opening ceremony, Metropolitan Hilarion saw the exposition displaying over 1000 objects of the Russian porcelain art of the 18th-21st centuries.
