Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Divine liturgy at the Assumption Cathedral in Moscow Kremlin on the feasts of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God
On 4 November 2015, the feast of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God marking the liberation of Moscow and Russia from the Poles in 1612, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Moscow Kremlin. Also celebrated on November 4 is the Day of National Unity.
Concelebrating with His Holiness were Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR); Metropolitan Isaias of Tamasos and Oreini, Orthodox Church of Cyprus; Metropolitan Nikolaos of Mesogaia and Laureotiki, Orthodox Church of Greece; Archbishop Mark of Ryazan and Mikhailov, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Finance and Economics Administration; Bishop Savva of Voskresensk, first deputy of the chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate; Bishop Sergy of Solnechnogorsk head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Administrative secretariat; archpriest Vladimir Divakov, secretary of the Patriarch for Moscow; archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, chairman of the Church-Society Synodal department; archpriest Nikolai Balashov, DECR deputy chairman; archimandrite Serafim (Shemyatovsky), representative of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia; and Moscow clergymen.
The choir of the Sretensky stavropegic monastery was singing at the service which was broadcast on ‘Soyuz’ TV channel.
At the Little Entrance His Holiness Patriarch Kirill elevated Archbishop Mark of Ryazan and Mikhailov, whom the Holy Synod appointed head of the Ryzan metropolia on October 22, to the rank of metropolitan.
Petitions for peace in the Middle East were said at the Litany of Fervent Supplication, after which His Holiness offered prayer for peace in Ukraine.
Prayers for peace in the Middle East were offered up in other church with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill addressed the worshippers with his primatial homily and delivered high church awards.
