Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour on the commemoration day of Ss Cyril and Methodius
On 24 May 2016, the commemoration day of Ss Cyril and Methodius Equal-to-the-Apostles and Teachers of the Slavs, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. The Nameday of His Holiness is celebrated on this feast Day of Slavonic Literature and Culture.
Concelebrating with His Holiness were the assembly of the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church including fourteen metropolitans, abbots of the monasteries, Moscow priests, and representatives of the four Local Orthodox Churches.
Attending the service was Mr. Alexander Beglov, Presidential Envoy in the Central Federal District, Metropolitan Nifon, representative of the Patriarch of Antioch to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; hegumenesses of the Russian Orthodox convents, Orthodox Muscovites and guests of the capital city.
The choir of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the choir of the brethren of the Laura of the Holy Trinity and St. Sergius and the choir of the ‘Orthodox Volunteers’ movement sang during the service which was broadcast live by ‘Soyuz’ TV channel.
Petitions for His Holiness who celebrated his Nameday were said at the Litany of Fervent Supplication.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church offered up a prayer for peace in Ukraine.
Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna said a thanksgiving prayer at the thanksgiving moleben for His Holiness.
Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine read out the congratulatory address of the Holy Synod.
Mr. Beglov congratulated the participants in the service on the church-state feast, the Day of Slavonic Literature and Culture and the Nameday of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church. His Holiness addressed his primatial homily to the worshippers.
