Patriarchate of Constantinople issues statement regarding the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey
After the assassination of Mr. Andrei Karlov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Turkey, in Ankara on 19 December 2016, the Patriarchate of Constantinople released a statement, expressing its deep grief over the tragedy.
As it is said in the message, the Patriarchate of Constantinople, which maintained very good relations with the late Andrei Karlov, condemns this inhuman act of terrorism against the worthy diplomat who had worked for the sake of peace, and expresses its sympathy with his relatives and colleagues, as well as with the church and political leadership of the Russian Federation, and “with all pious Russian people.” The Patriarchate of Constantinople expressed its hope that, for the sake of reconciliation and cooperation among people and nations and the prosperity of the entire humanity, there would be no terrorist attacks in the coming year and peace would reign all over the world.
“Eternal memory be to God’s servant Andrei! May God the Lord grant rest to him in the land of the living and in the dwellings of the righteous,” the statement says in conclusion.
