International Conference ‘The Holy Scriptures in the Changing World’ takes place in Etchmiadzin
On September 28-October 2, 2018, the International Conference ‘The Holy Scriptures in the Changing World’ was held in Etchmiadzin, Armenia, sponsored by the United Bible Societies (UBS) with the participation of the Local Orthodox Churches and the Ancient Oriental Churches.
Taking part in the conference were delegates from these Churches and Cardinal John Onaiykan, Archbishop of Abuja, the Roman Catholic Church, UBS Director General Michael Perreau, heads and representatives of the national Bible societies from Armenia, Lebanon, India, Turkey, Serbia, Romania, Greece, Austria, Germany, Finland, Great Britain, Japan, Kenya and Nigeria.
Hegumen Arseny (Sokolov), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, attended the conference with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchates’ Department for External Church Relations.
Presented at the conference were reports on the place of the Holy Scriptures in the life of the Orthodox Church and the Ancient Oriental Churches, and on the cooperation of Christian Churches with the UBS and national Bible Societies in the dissemination of the Holy Scriptures in the different countries of the world, including the struggling regions of Asia and Africa where people are suffering from poverty and military conflicts.
Memorandum was issues on the results of the conference on mutual understanding and cooperation between the UBS and the Orthodox Churches and the Ancient Oriental Churches.
The delegates attended the presentation of “The Gospel according to Luke in the language of gestures” videodisk issued by the Armenian Bible Society and the Armenian Apostolic Church.
