Hierarchs of Antiochian and Russian Orthodox Churches take part in patronal feast of Serbian convent in Buenos Aires
DECR Communication Service, 27/01/2026
On 25th January 2026, at the invitation of Bishop Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South and Central America (Serbian Orthodox Church), Metropolitan Santiago of Buenos Aires and Argentina (Patriarchate of Antioch) and Bishop Leonid of Argentina and South America (Moscow Patriarchate) visited the Convent of St. Sava of Serbia in Buenos Aires and celebrated the Divine Liturgy there to mark its patronal feast.
Concelebrating with the archpastors were clergymen of the Local Orthodox Churches, including Archpriest Esteban Jovanovic, Secretary of the Diocese of Argentina of the Serbian Patriarchate.
The divine service was celebrated in the Church Slavonic, Serbian, Arabic and Spanish languages. Among those in prayerful attendance was Mother Maria (Oliveira), Abbess of St. Sava Convent. Attending the Liturgy were also parishioners of various churches in Buenos Aires and visitors to Argentina’s capital.
After the Dismissal, Metropolitan Santiago and Bishop Leonid greeted Mother Maria on the patronal feast of the convent, wishing her God’s help in her further monastic labours. They also extended warm greetings to all the worshippers and thanked them for the joint prayer, website of the Diocese of Argentina of the Russian Orthodox Church reports.
In his homily, Bishop Leonid wished all those present to follow the example of St. Sava of Serbia, that is, to thrive in mercy towards their neighbours, often visit the church of God, love God, partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ and through that save their souls.
The Liturgy was followed by a festive repast.
