Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Lebanon hosts a Christmas charity dinner in Beirut

On December 19, the commemoration day of St. Nicholas the Miracleworker, a charity Christmas dinner was held at the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut. The event was organized by the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Lebanon under the patronage of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Lebanese Republic and the Russian House in Beirut.
The dinner was attended by H.E. Alexander Rudakov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Lebanon; H.E. Yury Sluka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan; H.E. Milan Trojanović, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to Lebanon; Mr. Alexander A. Sorokin, Director of the Russian House in Beirut; Mr. Iliya V. Kukharev, acting director of the Russian House in Damascus; Mr. Jacques Jean Sarraf, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Lebanon; archimandrite prof. Jack (Khalil), Dean of the Institute of Theology - University of Balamand; archimandrite Philip (Vasiltsev), rector of the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Lebanon; archpriest Roman Jubran, representative of Metropolitan Elias of Beirut and rector of St. George cathedral in Beirut; archpriest Joseph Khoury, representative of Metropolitan Elias of Tyre and Sidon and rector of the St. Nicholas cathedral in Saida; archpriest Dimitrios Khoury, rector of St. Demetrius church in Achrafieh district, Beirut; archpriest Gerasim Ataya, rector of St. Elias church in Beirut; staff members of the Russian Embassy in Lebanon and of the Russian House in Beirut; representatives of public and cultural associations; and parishioners of the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Lebanon.
All proceeds from the charity dinner will be used for the payment for frescos in the church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos in Jal el Dib. Metropolitan Silouan of Mount Lebanon, the Antiochian Patriarchate, has granted the church to the community of the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Lebanon for the use, allowing for regular divine services, the Metochion’s website reports.

The church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos in Jal el Dib, Metropolis of Mount Lebanon, the Antiochian Orthodox Church, was granted to the community of the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Lebanon for regular divine services in 2020. On March 10, 2024, the Lesser Consecration of the church was celebrated by Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations.
