XIX Russia Abroad International Film Festival to open in Moscow on 7th November.

The XIX Russia Abroad International Film Festival will be held in Moscow from 7th to 14th November at the Alexander Solzhenitsyn Russia Abroad House and also on online. This is a unique cultural and educational forum devoted to the study of the Russian emigration of the twentieth century and the spiritual, cultural and scholarly legacy of the Russian abroad.
The full programme contains more than fifty movies and documentary films from ten countries, which is to say, Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, Canada, Russia, Serbia, Uzbekistan and France.
Some of the films are to be shown to honour jubilee dates among representatives of the scholarly field and culture of the Russian Orthodox Church, the fates of which are closely tied to the Russian abroad. Films beyond the confines of the competition to be shown are on the topics of the 160th anniversary of the birth and 100th anniversary of the death of Saint Tikhon of Moscow and All Rus’, the 150th anniversary of the birth of artist Mikhail Dobuzhinsky, the 120th anniversary of the birth of Nobel Prize laureate for economics Vasily Leontiev, the 100th anniversary of the birth of poet Naum Korzhavin and the 85th anniversary of the birth of poet Joseph Brodsky.
A special programme on the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Russian people in the Great Patriotic War and the special military operation will be shown. The participants of the Movement of the First youth movement at the conclusion of the screening of these special programmes will determine the winner as part of the Victory of the First project.
Comprising the jury this year are: for feature films theatre and cinema actress and teacher Tatian Olkhovich Grin Filonova (Mexico), casting director Valentina Katina-Chistova (Luxembourg) and chairman of the jury theatre and cinema actor and artist emeritus of Russia Yuri Belyaev; for non-feature films film director and chairman of the coordinating council of organizations of Russian compatriots in Argentina Silvan Yarmolyuk (Argentina), film director and screen writer Denis Chuvaev; the chairman of the jury film director, screen writer, teacher and artist emeritus of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Vadim Tsalikov.
Taking part in the events are the head of the Union of Nobility count Sergei Kapnist (France) and philologist, translator and specialist in the history of the Russian abroad Marina Sigirdzhe (Turkey). Soirées will be hosted by actress Tatiana Olkhovich Filonova Grin (Mexico), casting director Valentina Katina-Chistova (Luxembourg), film director Alexandr Karpov (Belarus), poet Dimitry Kuznetsova (Russia) and film director Konstantin Lopushansky (Russia).
Three Michael Chekhov Medals will be awarded at the event. They will be given to notable representatives of the culture of various countries for outstanding achievements in the field of cinematography and theatre. Among the recipients in previous years have been Chekhov student Joanna Merlin (USA), actors Sergei Yursky, Vladimir Etush, Yuri Solomin, Nikolai Karanchentsov, Alexandr Zbruev, actresses Marina Vladi (France) and Helen Mirren (Great Britain), screen writer Tonino Guerra (Italy), composers Alexander Zatsepin, Goran Bregović (Serbia) and others. The names of the new recipients are usually kept a secret until the awards ceremony.
The Russia Abroad International Film Festival was instituted by the Russia Abroad House and the Russian Way film studio in 2007 and takes place with the support of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Moscow city government, The Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, the Moscow City Duma and the Inheritance Foundation of the Russian Abroad.

Entrance from 8th to 14th November is free.
The screening of the films will follow the schedule on the official site of the festival.
There will be live online broadcasts of the ceremonies and soirées.

The opening ceremony of the Russia Abroad International Film Festival will take place on 7th November 2025 at 19.00 at the Russia Abroad House. It will conclude with a screening of the film ‘My Life Is Harnessed To Yours’ by director Yekaterina Orlovskaya.
A press conference will be held before the ceremony at 17.00.
