On October 9, the commemoration day of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian, Priest Georgy Sergeyev, who is responsible for providing pastoral guidance to the Russian-speaking Orthodox Christians in the territory of the Republic of Türkiye, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in a church located at St. John’s burial site in the Turkish town of Selçuk, near ancient Ephesus.
Attending the divine service were Russian-speaking believers from Istanbul, Izmir, Didim, Kuşadasi, as well a group of pilgrims from the Moscow region.
During the Litany of Fervent Supplication, special petitions were offered and the prayer for the Holy Rus’ was read. Most of the worshippers partook of the Holy Mysteries of Christ.
After the Liturgy, Father Georgy delivered a homily. He thanked the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism for the permission to celebrate the divine service at St. John’s burial site and expressed appreciation to Mr A.V. Ponomarev, chairman of the Solzhenitsyn Society for the Study of Russian Language and Culture in Izmir, for assistance in organizing the pilgrimage.
