Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa launches Educational Online Courses for catechists from African Countries

DECR Communication Service, 30.07.2025
This summer, the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa launched online courses for catechists engaged in educational and missionary work at parishes of the North African and South African dioceses.
The main goal of the courses is to improve the qualifications of parish catechists. The courses also aim to identify potential candidates for further theological education and preparation for ordination to the holy priesthood.
The training program consists of five subjects: Holy Scripture of the Old and New Testaments, Liturgics, Pastoral Theology, Apologetics, and Doctrine of the Faith.
The curriculum is designed with consideration for the cultural and religious context of the peoples of the African continent. Feedback from students is collected through various forms of interim and final assessments for each discipline, as reported by the Telegram channel of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
Participants in the courses include catechists from Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Malawi, Cameroon, Uganda, and Rwanda.
The teaching staff includes specialists from both Russia and Africa. The head of the courses is Archpriest Tigran Khachatryan, assistant to the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa for religious education and catechesis.
