Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk visits the Resurrection Church in Hakodate

DECR Communications Service, 31.03.2025.
On March 31, at the end of his stay in Japan, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, сhairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, visited the city of Hakodate on the island of Hokkaido.
The hierarch visited the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, built on the site of the former consulate of the Russian Empire. In 1861, hieromonk Nikolai (Kasatkin), the future Enlightener of Japan Equal-to-the-Apostles, arrived in Hakodate, where he spent the first years of his ministry in Japan.
Metropolitan Anthony was greeted by the rector, archpriest Clement Kodama, who told the guest about the construction of the church and the holy relics resting in it.
Then the hierarch visited the Russian cemetery and offered a prayer for the Orthodox Christians buried there.
Metropolitan Anthony was accompanied on his trip by priest Nikolai Vasin, his secretary, and hieromonk Nikolai (Ono), a cleric of the Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Tokyo.
