Serbian hierarch expresses fraternal support to Metropolitan Feodosiy of Cherkassy and Kanev in connection with raider seizure of cathedral in Cherkassy
DECR Communications Service, 25.10.2024.
"It was with great pain and compassion that I received news of the forcible raider seizure of the Cathedral of Archangel Michael in Cherkassy," wrote Metropolitan Joannikije of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Serbian Orthodox Church in his letter to Metropolitan Feodosy of Cherkassy and Kanev. The text was published by the Telegram channel of the Diocese of Cherkassy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The Archangel Michael Cathedral was seized on 17 October 2024 by the “OCU” raiders during a violent assault, during which Orthodox residents of Cherkassy who had gathered to defend their holy place being led by Metropolitan Feodosy were seriously injured.
Metropolitan Joannikije underscored, "Ukrainian schismatics have repeatedly, but this time especially vividly and clearly, shown the whole world through the violence and hatred with which they attacked this shrine that they are people who do not have the basic concepts of the Christian faith and are not its bearers, since they are ready to commit such a crime and deprive their brethren of a house of prayer."
"In such a difficult situation, you, dear Vladyka, together with the clergy and flock, have shown the whole world an example of genuine sacrifice and readiness to fight for freedom of faith and conscience in a Christian way," the hierarch of the Serbian Church wrote and assured Metropolitan Feodosy of brotherly support and constant prayer in this hard time.
"We believe and pray that the Lord will hear your prayers and that soon you will again celebrate the Divine Eucharist in your cathedral," the letter says.
