Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk expresses condolences on the death of decades-long DECR worker Boris Nelyubov
DECR Communication Service, 13.07.2024.
Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, сhairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, expressed deep condolences to the family and friends of professor Nelyubov, who reposed in the Lord on July 12, 2024. Boris Aleksandrovich devoted more than sixty years of his life to work in the DECR.
The message says:
Please accept my deep condolences on the death of Boris Aleksandrovich Nelyubov, a decades-long worker of the Department for External Church Relations and Honorary Professor of the Moscow Theological Academy.
For more than sixty years of his work in the Department, Boris Aleksandrovich worked fruitfully in the field of inter-Christian and inter-Orthodox relations, thus making significant contribution to consolidation of relations with fraternal Local Orthodox Churches and to the development of dialogue and cooperation with the Ancient Oriental Churches.
As an employee of the Department for External Church Relations with specific knowledge and the Greek language translator, he happened to be a direct participant and living witness of many historical meetings and events in the life of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Boris Aleksandrovich took part in creating modern church history, being a part of it, and continued his scholarly studies in ancient history until his last years. Graduates of Moscow theological schools have warm reminiscences his lectures, his supervision of their studies, his kind-heartedness and good nature. His wide knowledge of history and comprehensive expertise were very important for the activities of the Department for External Church Relations, and he enjoined special authority with his colleagues.
Modesty, friendliness, genuine simplicity and sincerity of relationships were characteristic of Boris Aleksandrovich in his professional and personal contacts. We will remember his inexhaustible joy of living and keen sense of humour, as well as his undimmed intelligence and luminous wisdom of a true Christian, ‘in whom is no guile’ (Jn 1:47) and ‘who built his house upon the rock’ (Mt 7:24), his genuine piety and faith in Christ.
May the merciful Lord receive the soul of His newly departed faithful servant Boris in peace. May He establish him in the mansions of the righteous and rest him in Abraham’s bosom. Eternal and blessed memory!
Invoking God's blessing upon you,
Chairman
