Delegation of the Diocese of Berlin and Germany takes part in events marking the 79th anniversary of the Victory

On May 9, ceremonial commemorative events were held in Berlin marking the 79th
anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
In the morning, Archbishop Tikhon of Ruza, Administrator of the Diocese of Berlin and Germany, accompanied by the diocesan clergy, took part in the official flowers-laying ceremony at the monument to the Soviet soldiers liberators in Treptow Park.
Fr om there, the delegation went to the Soviet War Memorial in the Tiergarten Park located in the city center, wh ere a flower and wreath-laying ceremony took place. “Memory Eternal” was proclaimed to “the commanders and soldiers who laid down their lives in battle.” After the memorial prayer, the participants in the ceremony sang the Paschal troparion three times, website of the Diocese of Berlin and Germany reports.
Attending the memorial event were H.E. Sergey Nechayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Federal Republic of Germany; ambassadors and defenсe attachés of the CIS member states and other foreign countries; employees of the Russian Embassy and of the diplomatic corps accredited in Berlin; representatives of public organizations; and residents of the city.
Afterwards, a state reception was given at the Russian Embassy. Ambassador Nechayev addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. Honoured were veterans, survivors of the Leningrad siege, and former prisoners of ghettos and concentration camps.
