Visit by the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church to Moscow ends.

On 16th March 2024 the visit of His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia Porfirije to Moscow ended. The primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church visited the Russian capital in order to attend the funeral service and burial of the representative of the Patriarch of Serbia to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, the dean of the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul at the Yauza Gates in Moscow, which serves as the representation church (metochion) of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the bishop of Moravica Anthony, who died on 11th March.
Upon arriving in Moscow on 15th March, the primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije and his accompanying delegation visited the Convent of the Protecting Veil in Moscow. On the same day at the Patriarchal and Synodal Residence of Saint Daniel’s Monastery a meeting was held between His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia Profirije.
On 16th March at the Christ the Saviour Church in Moscow His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia Porfirije headed the Divine Liturgy and took the funeral service for the newly-departed bishop of Moravica Anthony. At the conclusion of the funeral service a commemorative meal was held, which was attended by the primates and bishops of the two churches, clergy and representatives of the Serbian authorities and the relatives and friends of the deceased.
According to the bishop’s last will and testament, he was buried in the grounds of the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul by the Yauza Gates, the metochion of the Serbian Church in Moscow, the dean of which he was for twenty-two years.
In the evening of 16th March His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia Porfirje was accompanied to Sheremetyevo International Airport by the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate the metropolitan of Volokolamsk Anthony, advisor to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia archpriest Nikolai Balashov, deputy chairman of the DECR archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, the director of protocol at the DECR abbot Theophan (Lukyanov) and the Serbian Ambassador to Russian Momcilo Babic.
Also departing with the Patriarch of Serbia were the bishop of Bačka Irinej and the Serbian minister for labour and social security Nikola Selakovic.
