Archimandrite Daniel (Lepisk) was consecrated as Bishop of Tartu, Auxiliary Bishop of Tallinn Diocese

On 4th February 2024, 35th Sunday after Pentecost, commemoration day of the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church, Metropolitan Eugene of Tallinn and All Estonia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky in Tallinn, patriarchia.ru reports.

Among Metropolitan Eugene’s concelebrants were Metropolitan Innokenty of Vilnius and Lithuania; Bishop Lazar of Narva and Prichudye; Bishop Sergiy of Maardu, vicar of the Tallinn Diocese; Bishop Ambrose of Trakai, vicar of the Vilnius Diocese; as well as the clergy of the Tallinn and Narva dioceses.

During the Liturgy, Archimandrite Daniel (Lepisk) was consecrated as Bishop of Tartu, auxiliary bishop of the Tallinn Diocese.

After the divine service, the Primate of the Estonian Orthodox Church addressed Bishop Daniel of Tartu with words of exhortation and presented him with an episcopal crozier. As is the tradition, the newly consecrated bishop gave his first archpastoral blessing to the worshippers.

Metropolitan Eugene delivered a homily.

The day before, on 3rd February, Metropolitan Eugene performed the rite of episcopal nomination in concelebration with Bishop Lazar of Narva and Prichudye and Bishop Sergiy of Maardu. As part of the rite, Archimandrite Daniel (Lepisk) was nominated as Bishop of Tartu and delivered an acceptance speech.

The rite of nomination and subsequent consecration were performed in compliance with the decision of the Estonian Orthodox Church Synod of 29th January 2024, approved by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on 3rd February (Minutes No. 1).
