DECR Communication Service, 20.12.2023.
On December 19, the commemoration day of St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia and Miracle Worker, festivities were held at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Vienna, website of the Diocese of Vienna and Austria reports.
Bishop Alexy of Vienna and Austria officiated at the Divine Liturgy on the feast day and at the All-night Vigil on its eve.
Assisting the archpastor were archpriest Radoslav Ristić, hieromonk Ioann (Krammer), priests Vyacheslav Shibanov, Vasily Bush and Georgy Ryashko, and deacons Bojan Nedeljkovic and Nikolai Markovich.
Singing at the Liturgy was the cathedral choir conducted by its precentor, Ms Tatiana Shcherba.
After the Liturgy, the glorification to St. Nicholas was celebrated, and Bishop Alexy delivered a sermon, in which he said:
“All good deeds of St. Nicholas were invigorated by his love for God. St. Theophan the Recluse wrote that it was not good to do good deeds as a matter of course because everything should be focused on the creation of an inner man. The life of St. Nicholas shows that he had burned with love for God. Regrettably, due to the cooling of our hearts to really Christians labours it is difficult for us to comprehend how one can burn with such fire. We should sunk in the deepest thoughts about it, go forward and grow in our love for God. Today let us beseech St. Nicholas to remember all of us and set our life paths straight.”
