New York's Cathedral of St Nicholas celebrated the Thanksgiving day
On the 23rd of November 2023, one of the main national holidays - Thanksgiving - was celebrated in the United States of America.
Since this holiday was originally based on the idea of expressing gratitude to God for His favours, the St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York City has for many years celebrated a Divine Liturgy and organised a traditional meal for parishioners on this day.
According to the parish website, the Service on the feast day was celebrated by the rector of the cathedral Archpriest Igor Vyzhanov,
The turkeys for the traditional meal were donated by the Russian American Officers Association.
The Sunday school of the cathedral organised a festive concert by the children's choir under the direction of regent A.I. Sidorova. In addition, a quiz on the pages of the Gospel and the Old Testament was organised for the children. Each of the Sunday school pupils made special crafts - a symbolic tree of thanksgiving to God and cards with words of gratitude to their parents.
