Divine Liturgy celebrated in Papua New Guinea
With the blessing of the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, Metropolitan Sergius of Singapore and Southeast Asia, Priest Stanislav Rasputin and Reader Sergei Gefaldo have been travelling to Papua New Guinea since 14 November, the website of the Exarchate reports.
On the 19th of November, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the city of Port Moresby, in which local people who had already accepted Orthodoxy and were undergoing catechesis, had participated. The service was conducted in English and partly in the local language - Tok Pisin.
During the course of the trip, there have been daily meetings with both previously catechized Christians and the new ones who have never heard of Orthodoxy before. Local residents are very religious and after conversations about the Orthodox faith they often express a desire to learn more. After each conversation, there is an opportunity to ask any questions, and the locals show the depth of their religiosity by asking questions that indicate not superficial interest and curiosity, but that they have sincere and God-seeking hearts.
Further plans include a trip to remote settlements in the north of the island to meet with communities interested in Orthodoxy.
