Delegation of the World Council of Churches visited Russia

On May 17, a delegation of the World Council of Churches visited Moscow. The delegation included WCC secretary general Dr Jerry Pillay, director for international Affairs Mr Peter Prove, and programme executive for Inter-Christian Relations and Faith and Order Dr Vasile-Octavian Mihoc.

The delegation had a meeting with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. It was devoted to the Russian Orthodox Church’s cooperation with the WCC.

The guests visited the Department for External Church Relations in which they saw the memorial space devoted to Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov) of Leningrad and Novgorod. The DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, Hieromonk Stephen (Igumnov) told them about the history of relations and the current contacts of the Russian Orthodox Church with representatives of Christian confessions and international Christian organizations.

As a part of their visit, the guests also visited the St. Daniel Patriarchal Monastery in Moscow, the Cathedral Church of Christ the Saviour and Red Square.

The delegation was accompanied by Hieromonk Stephen (Igumnov), head of the DECR protocol section Hegumen Feofan (Lukjanov), and DECR staff members Hierodeacon Peter (Akhmatkhanov), D. E. Arakelian and D. I. Menyailov.
