On 13th April adherents of the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) seized a church building of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Zhytomyr region.
As reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists, activists from the ‘OCU’ at the sixth attempt seized the Saint Alexander Nevsky Church under the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Tsarivka in the Zhytomyr region. The schismatics, with the help of the village elder and local deputies E. Pidkevich and N. Overkoskyi, smashed the locks of the church building and then seized it.
The initiator of the seizure was the head of the local village district Ye. By unknown means and illegally our community has been re-registered to the ‘OCU’, the diocese of Zhytomyr reports.
At the same time, more than 150 members of the local religious community unanimously voted to remain loyal to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and her Primate His Beatitude the Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Onuphrius.
