UOC church is burnt in Ternopol region
DECR Communication Service, 28.03.2023.
On the night of March 28, unknown persons burnt the church of the Most Holy Theotokos of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Kordyshev, Shumsk deanery, Ternopol region. Archpriest Georgy Tsezaruk, rector of the church, told the Union of Orthodox Journalists about the incident.
According to him, the church was pelted with fiery bottles, called Molotov cocktails, and gasoline was later added to the flame. The sanctuary, the altar and the credence table were reduced to ashes; the fire engulfed the middle part of the church. “Chalices were melted, but a few of the icons remained intact. The church building has just been built and not even completed,” Fr Georgy said.
He continued to say that police officers and crime scene investigators were already working in the church and added that the arson was planned because earlier the church and parishioners had received threats.
