Conference entitled "The Old Rite in the Life of the Russian Orthodox Church: Past and Present" was held in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour
On January 24th, at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, within the framework of the 31st International Educational Readings "Global challenges of our time and the spiritual choice of man," a conference had been held, titled "The Old Rite in the life of the Russian Orthodox Church: past and present".
The event was chaired by Metropolitan Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas. Archpriest Ioann Mirolyubov, Secretary of the Commission, Head of the Patriarchal Center for the Old Russian liturgical tradition, Rector of the Church of the Protecting Veil in Rubtsovo, Doctor of Theology, was the Curator of the Annual Conference.
At the beginning of the conference, choir of the Church of the Protecting Veil in Rubtsovo performed Old Russian liturgical hymns, with commentaries by Veronika Grigorieva, PhD in Art History, Associate Professor of the Orthodox St. Tikhon's University of Humanities and choir regent of the Church of the Protecting Veil in Rubtsovo.
Head of the Society of Lovers of tge Old Russian Singing in the name of St Job, choir regent of the Church of the Protecting Veil in Rubtsovo Gleb Pechenkin introduced the book "Znamenny Office of the Great Lenten Liturgy", published by the Patriarchal Centre for Old Russian liturgical traditions.
Archpriest Mikhail Zheltov, rector of the Nativity Church in Mitino in Moscow and an associate professor of the Moscow Theological Academy delivered a report entitled "Saint Metropolitan Macarius of Moscow and All Russia as a collector of liturgical liturgical books".
The report "Christian anthropology in eschatological perspective" was presented by Professor Alexander Dugin, Doctor of Political Science and Doctor of Philosophy.
Archpriest Ioann Mirolyubov, Doctor of Theology, spoke on "The Experience of the Development of the Concept of Old Believer Parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church".
Archpriest Evgeny Sarancha, clergyman of St Michael's Church in the village of Mikhailovskaya Sloboda, Moscow Region, spoke about the dynasty of the Ivanovo Edinovertsy Burylins.
Priest Maksim Plyakin, secretary of the Saratov diocesan commission on canonization of ascetics, presented a report entitled "New Information on the biography of Bishop Amvrosy (Sosnovtsev) of Mstyorsk" which was prepared in cooperation with the next speaker.
The conference was closed by the Research fellow of the faculty of Russian history and archeology of the N. G. Chernyshevskiy Saratov State University Pavel Konstantinovich Soloviev with the report "The Edinovertsy parishes in the system of eparchial administration of Samara province in the middle of XIX - beginning of XX century".
In conclusion the chairman of the conference Metropolitan Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas thanked all the participants for the joint work.
