Antiochian Bishop attends patronal feast at the Russian Church Representation in Damascus

On January 2, the commemoration day of the Hieromartyr Ignatius the God-Bearer, the church at the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus celebrated its patronal feast. With the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East, Bishop Roman of Seleucia officiated at the Divine Liturgy. Assisting were Archimandrite Philip (Vasiltsev), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ to the Antiochian Patriarchal See, Rev. Gennady Titov of the Diocese of Tikhvin, and Rev. Jacob of the Cathedral in Damascus.

The Divine service was celebrated in the Church Slavonic and Arabic languages, website of the Representation reports.

Offered up was the Prayer for the Restoration of Peace which is being read in all churches of the Russian Orthodox Church with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’.

After the dismissal, Bishop Roman warmly greeted Archimandrite Philip, clergy and parishioners with their patronal feast.

Archimandrite Philip cordially thanked Bishop Roman for officiating at the Divine Liturgy and presented him with a set of wax candles.

On behalf of his ruling hierarch, Bishop Mstislav of Tikhvin, Rev. Gennady Titov currently in Damascus to assist at Christmas services with the blessing of the DECR chairman Metropolitan Anthony, greeted Bishop Roman and presented him with a panagia.

The divine service being over, Bishop Roman of Seleucia visited the Centre for Pediatric Prosthetics and Rehabilitation opened at the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus in March 2022 with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and with the support of His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East, the Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations under the President of the Russian Federation, the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage; and “Poznanie” and “Kirche in Not” Charitable Foundations.
