Representative of the Russian Church attends consecration of a new bishop of the Antiochian Patriarchate

On December 10, at the invitation of His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East, Archimandrite Philip (Vasiltsev), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ to the Antiochian Patriarchal See, took part in the festivities held on the occasion of the consecration of the abbot of Our Lady of Balamand Patriarchal Monastery, the Rev.Archimandrite Romanos (Hannat) as Bishop of Seleucia and Patriarchal vicar.
His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Damascus. Among those concelebrating with him were Metropolitan Elias of Tyre and Sidon, Metropolitan George of Homs, Metropolitan Basil of Akkar, Metropolitan Silouan of Mount Lebanon, Metropolitan Athanasios of Latakia, Metropolitan Ephreim of Aleppo and Alexandretta, other hierarchs, Bishop-elect Romanos (Hannat), Archimandrite Philip (Vasiltsev), as well as priests and deacons of the Orthodox Church of Antioch.
Praying at the cathedral were Dr. Amr Nazim Salem, Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection; H.E. Alexander Yefimov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Syrian Arab Republic; chargé d’affaires of the Greek Embassy in Syria, Ambassador Nikolaos Protonotarios; Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus Sivak Avedissian; Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria Plamen Hristov; Orthodox members of the People’s Assembly of the Syrian Arab Republic; judges; representatives of regional authorities; directors of church institutions and organizations, a delegation from the University of Balamand; parishioners of the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus; and many other faithful.
Liturgical exclamations were said in English, Arabic, Greek, German, French and Church Slavonic.
Patriarch John X addressed the worshippers with a primatial homily. He cordially greeted the celebrating archpastors, Archimandrite Philip, and all sons and daughters of the Antiochian Church at homeland and in other countries of the world.
The divine service being over, a tea party took place at the reception hall at the cathedral. Archimandrite Philip wholeheartedly congratulated the new bishop on behalf of the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus, website of the Representation reports.
