DECR Chairman meets with Deputy Prime-Minister of Hungary
The vice-chairman of the Hungarian government warmly welcomed the head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relation, noting that he was well known in Hungary, including through his international work, as well as theological studies and musical compositions. Mr. Zsolt Semjén stressed the present high level of Hungary’s relations with the Russian Orthodox Church, which makes it possible for the two sides to work together in implementing a whole number of joint projects.
Metropolitan Hilarion conveyed to Mr. Semjén a greeting from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia noting that His Holiness had met with the present deputy vice-prime minister on several occasions. The hierarch expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to come to Budapest to attend the International Eucharistic Congress and to hold meetings with several Hungarian political and religious figures.
During the exchange of opinions, which lasted for over one hour and a half, the sides discussed a broad range of issues concerning the joint projects implemented at present. Special importance was given to coordination of efforts in the continued restoration of the Cathedral of the Assumption in Budapest, as well as to the fundamental coincidence of attitude to a considerable part of international problems and importance of defending the fundamental moral norms.
In conclusion of the talk, taking part in which were also Russian Federation Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Hungary, Mr. E. A. Stanislavov and assistant to the administrator of the diocese of Budapest and Hungary Rev. Svytoslav Bulakh, Metropolitan Hilarion and Mr. Semjén exchanged tokens of the meeting.
