The 15th anniversary of the church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Pyongyang marked in the DPRK capital city

On August 13 2021, the festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Pyongyang. It was timed to the 15th anniversary of the consecration of the church.
After the service, Rev. Vladimir Chang read out the massages of greeting from Patriarchal Exarch for South-East Asia Metropolitan Sergiy of Singapore and South-East Asia and Archbishop Feofan of Korea addressed to chairman of the Central Committee of the Council of the Faithful in the DPRK Kang Ji Yong, and chairman of the Orthodox Committee in the DPRK Victor Yu Yen Neun and to the parishioners of the Trinity church.
The Patriarchal Exarch of the South-East Asia noted that the magnificent church of the Trinity is a visible symbol of Russian-Korean friendship. Archbishop Feofan expressed to the chairman of the Orthodox Committee in the DPRK and to the clergy and parishioners of the Trinity church the wish to continue their service with diligence and zeal for the good of the Church of Christ.
The chairman of the Orthodox Committee in the DPRK Victor Yu, in his turn, expressed gratitude for the warm congratulations and stressed that the Orthodox church in the capital city’s Jongbaek district was a priceless gift of the DPRK state leadership to Russian Orthodox Christians residing in Pyongyang. The church has become the center of the spiritual life of Orthodox Christians, which helps to build cooperation and develop friendly relations between the peoples of Russia and Korea.
The Russian Federation ambassador to the DPRK Mr. A. I. Matsegora shared his remembrances of the history of the construction of the church, making a special mention of the service rendered by A. G. Karlov, Russia’s Hero, former Russian ambassador in Pyongyang, as it is thanks to him that the Orthodox faith returned to the Korean land.

In 2011, the festivities devoted to the 5th anniversary of the consecration of the Trinity church were presided over by Archbishop Mark of Yegoryevsk.
In August 2016, Bishop Anthony of Bogorodsk visited the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to take part in the festive events timed to the 10th anniversary of the consecration.
Pandemic restrictions prevented in 2021 to send a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church to Pyongyang. The anniversary of the consecration of the church was marked by the Divine Liturgy celebrated by the Korean clergy.
The church of the Life-Giving Trinity is one of the adornments of the DPRK capital city. Through the efforts of the Council of the Faithful and the Orthodox Committee in the DPRK, the clergy and church workers of the Trinity church and staff members of the Russian Federation embassy in the DPRK capital city, the church has become a place of attraction for many people and a visible testimony to the consolidation of spiritual relations between the fraternal peoples of Russia and North Korea.
