A hierarch of Serbian Orthodox Church takes part in festivities on the Day of Prophet Elias in Moscow

On August 2, 2021, Bishop John of Pakrac and Slavonia, Serbian Orthodox Church, took part in the festivities devoted to the commemoration day of Prophet Elias in Moscow.

Together with Bishop Feofilakt of Mytishchi, assistant to the first vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, he celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the church of God’s Prophet Elias at the former Novgorod Representation-in-Kitai-gorod.

This year marks the 500th anniversary of the consecration of the church of St. Elias, the oldest church surviving in Kitai-gorod, after which Ilyinka Street is named.

Archpriest Andrey Rechinsky, dean of the Iversky district and rector of the church of St. Elias, Archpriest Vyacheslav Shestakov, rector of the Patriarchal Zaryadye Representation, and clergy of the St Elias church and invited clerics concelebrated.

The liturgical hymns were sung by the choir of the church conducted by Peter Savinkov.

After the liturgy, a procession with the cross was held from the church of St. Elias to Red Square. At Lobnoye Mesto, Bishop Feofilakt held a prayer service.

After the service, the archpastor conveyed greetings and blessing from the Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to all participants in the festive events.

Speeches of greeting were made by Colonel-General A. Kolmakov, chairman of DOSAAF (Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation, and Navy), and K. Blazhenov, deputy head of the Moscow Department for National Policy and Inter-Regional Relations.

After the official part of the ceremony, a concert was given by Russia’s Honoured Artist Viktor Sorokin and the Moscow Cossack Choir. Admission to all the event was by invitation with observance of Rospotrebnadzor prescriptions. About 500 people attended the festival.
