Paschal celebration in Church of the Dormition in Beijing
On the Paschal night of May 2, 2021, the festive divine service was celebrated in the church of the Dormition in Beijing. The Midnight Office, Matins preceded by a procession with the cross and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated by the rector of the church, Hieromonk Innokenty (Kolesnikov). The parish choir was conducted by Ms. O. Pimenova.
Among the worshippers were representatives of the Russian embassy in the Chinese People’s Republic and diplomats from other embassies with predominant Orthodox staff. Along with Russian citizens, the Paschal service was attended by Byelorussians, Moldovans, Serbs, Romanian, Bulgarians, Greeks, Cypriots, Frenchmen, Germans, as well as representatives of other nations. There was also a group of ‘Albazians’ (Orthodox Chinese, descendants of Russian Cossacks, whose ancestors were brought to China by Emperor Kangxi in the 17th century).
The Paschal Gospel was read in Church Slavonic, Chinese, English, German, French, Italian, Greek, Romanian, Ukrainian, Serbian and Russian.
