Azerbaijani version of Patriarch Kirill’s book ‘Freedom and Responsibility: In a Search of Harmony’ presented in Baku
On June 23, 2012, a presentation of the book by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia ‘Freedom and Responsibility: In a Search for Harmony’ took place at the Muslim Board for the Caucasus. Published in 2008 in Russia, it is a collection of the Patriarch’s speeches and articles united under the theme of Christian understanding of human rights and freedoms. The Azerbaijani version includes a chronicle of the Patriarchal visits of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Opening the presentation, Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshuqur Pasha-zade noted that the book ‘reflects of the views of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church on the burning issues of socio-political life and gives adequate and much-demanded answers to the challenges of the modern world’.
‘Today as never before, humanity feels the need for the wisdom and authority of His Holiness as a religious leader who enjoys enormous respect by all true believers, in particular, Muslims… There are close relations between the Muslim Board for the Caucasus and the Russian Orthodox Church, and the presidents of the two countries give a high value to them. We appreciate the efforts of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church in settling the Nagorny Karabakh problem’, he underscored, reminding the audience that the services rendered by Patriarch Kirill to the development of religious and cultural relations between the peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan were rewarded by Azerbaijan’s Order of Sharaf.
Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan D. Doronin and other speakers pointed out that despite the high level of its articles, the book is intended for the general reader.
Patriarch Kirill’s book has been published in Azerbaijani, English, Arabic, Armenian, Greek, Spanish, Italian, Lettish, Lithuanian, Moldavian, German, Polish, Ukrainian, French, and Estonian. The translation of the book into Hebrew, Chinese, Slovakian, Turkish, Farsi, Czech, Yakutian and Japanese is underway.
