DECR chairman speaks at international symposium on Renewal of the Christian Spirit in the Modern World
On November 13, 2015, an international symposium on Renewal of the Christian Spirit in the Modern World took place at the residence of the British ambassador to Russia. It was organized by the Embassy of the Great Britain, the Department for External Church Relation of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Church of England Diocese of London.
Canon Clive Fairclough, chaplain of the Anglican St. Andrew’s church in Moscow, made introductory remarks.
Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk spoke on the importance of Christian witness in the context of growing secularism and increasing spread of extremism.
Bishop Richard Chartres of London, in his speech, called to Christian unity in face of today’s apparent political, social and economic troubles.
Among the speakers were also Hieromonk Ioann (Kopeikin), pro-rector of the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies, D. Bogatyrev, rector of the Russian Christian Academy of the Humanities, the Revd Anders Litzell, Prior of the Community of St Anselm at the Lambeth Palace, and the Revd Clive Fairclough, chaplain of the Anglican parish in Moscow. The speeches were followed by a brief discussion.
Among the attendees were also Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), a DECR vice-chairman, the Revd Lesley Nathaniel, a member of the Church of England delegation, and representatives of Protestant Churches in Russia.
