Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church commemorates His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II
On 5 December 2016, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia currently on a visit to the Korsun diocese celebrated Rerquiem service at Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois Russian cemetery not far from Paris. His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of the blessed memory was commemorated.
Patriarch Kirill said in the cemetery Church of the Dormition: ‘Today we commemorate the eight anniversary of the demise of my predecessor, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of the blessed memory, with whom I visited the cemetery in 2007. Today we shall pray for those buried at this cemetery and for Patriarch Alexy.’
His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia was the 15th Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church since 1589 when the Patriarchal office was instituted in Rus’. Patriarch Alexy II died on December 5, 2008, and is buried at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Yelokhovo, Moscow.
