Conference time to the centenary of the February Revolution takes place at the Hall of Church Councils of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour
On 18 February 2017, a conference “February. Tragedy. The Lessons of History. 2017” was held at the Hall of Church Councils of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
The conference was organized by the Ludvig Nobel Foundation, the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society and the Imperial Historical Club. Among those taking part in the conference were Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations; Mr. Vladimir Legoida, chairman of the Synodal Department for the Church’s relations with society and mass media. Attending the conference were Metropolitan Niphon of Philipopolis, representative of the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; Bishop Diodor of Melekess and Cherdakly; Ambassador Extraordianry and Plenipotentiary Boyko Kotzev of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Russian Federation; representatives of the public circles, scholars, clergymen.
The conference was opened by Metropolitan Hilarion’s address in which he underscored that history of the 20th century has shown that unbelief and militant atheism bring about mistakes in political and public life. “It was faith that during many centuries determined the development of our nation while love to the native land united people”, he said and added that the Russian Church has always been with her flock and will continue to share their destiny being strengthened by the Lord.
That same day an exhibition “In memory of those who laid down their lives for the faith of Christ” opened and a documentary was shown accompanied by a symphony orchestra.
