Fundraising campaign begins to help war-affected population of Syria
On 17 May 2017, the second meeting of the Working Group for Rendering Humanitarian Aid to the Population of Syria took place at the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations. The working group was established within the Commission for International Cooperation of the Presidential Council for Cooperation with Religious Organizations.
Among those who took part in the session were Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations; Mufti Ildar Ziganshin, a member of the Presidium of the Central Muslim Spiritual Board of Russia; Rev. Igor Kovalevsky, general secretary of the Conference of Russia’s Roman Catholic Bishops; Mr. Sergei Ryakhovsky, presiding bishop of the Russian Union of Christians of the Evangelical Faith (Pentecostals); Mr. D. Mustafin, acting head of the Administration of the Muslim Spiritual Board of Russia; as well as representatives of the government bodies of the Russian Federation and the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Ministry of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The participants in the meeting discussed the implementation of the decisions taken at the first session of the working group and emphasized the necessity to deliver the first consignment of humanitarian aid to Syria as soon as possible. Each of the confessions represented in the working group will collect the funds to purchase the essential food stuffs and medicaments. The first consignment is planned to be sent to Syria in late June 2017, to be delivered to the regions, in which the population is in the dire need of humanitarian aid.
To help the war-affected population of Syria, one can make a donation to the Department for Church Charity and Social Ministry of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
