His Holiness Patriarch Kirill meets with Ambassador of Kingdom of Denmark to Russian Federation
On 29th November 2019, at the Patriarchal and Synodal residence in St. Daniel’s Monastery in Moscow, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with H.E. Mr. Carsten Søndergaard, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Russian Federation.
They were joined in the meeting by Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), vice-chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations.
Greeting the guest, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church noted that the relations between the peoples of Russia and Denmark have centuries-old history. “It is a very important factor for peace and stability,” Patriarch Kirill said.
According to His Holiness, nowadays the many-sided relationships between the two countries have numerous positive factors. The Patriarch pointed out that residing in the territory of Denmark are many emigrants from the former Soviet Union. In Denmark there are several churches of the Russian Orthodox Church, for instance, the Church of the Holy Right-Believing Prince Alexander Nevsky in Copenhagen consecrated in 1883.
“The Russian Church has many reasons to have warm feelings towards Denmark, the Danish people, and is ready to facilitate the development of relations between our peoples and between our countries. Welcome to the Moscow Patriarchate, and I would like to assure you of our willingness to maintain the closest and warmest relations with the Embassy which you head,” His Holiness Patriarch Kirill added.
Mr. Carsten Søndergaard thanked His Holiness for the meeting and expressed his hope for further cooperation.
