Anniversary of Archbishop Longin’s demise marked in church in Dusseldorf
August the 25th, 2015, marks the anniversary of the demise of Archbishop Longin (Talypin). On this day, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the church of the Protecting Veil in which His Eminence Longin was rector for many years.
The congregation was led by Archimandrite Joseph (Pustoutov), dean of the Western District, Diocese of Berlin and Germany, and rector of the Parish of St. Tamara the Queen of Georgia in Aachen. He was assisted by numerous rectors and clergy of Orthodox parishes in Germany.
In the end of the service, Father Joseph addressed the congregation, expressing high appreciation of the life and merits of Archbishop Longing with whom he had been tied by bonds of friendship and cooperation for many years.
After the liturgy, a requiem service was celebrated for Archbishop Longin of eternal memory. The parishioners organized a commemorative repast.
Later that day, Hegumen Maxim, acting rector of the Parish of the Protecting Veil in Dusseldorf, assisted by several clergy, said the Office for the Dead at Archbishop Longin’s grave in Bonn, the website of the church of the Protecting Veil in Dusseldorf reports.

Archbishop Longin (Talypin) was born on February 17, 1946, in Helsinki, Finland.
In April 1969 he took monastic vows. In the same month he was ordained as hierodeacon and then hieromonk. From 1969 he served as a priest at the Patriarchal Parish of the Protecting Veil in Helsinki.
In 1969, he graduated by correspondence from Leningrad Seminary and in 1974 from Leningrad Theological Academy. In 1974 he was elevated to the rank of hegumen. From November 1975 he was a holder of professorial scholarship at the Chair of the History of the Russian Orthodox Church.
From 1978 he was rector of the Patriarchal Parish of the Protecting Veil in Helsinki.
From November 1979 he was dean of the Dusseldorf diocesan churches. In December 1979 he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite.
In October 1981, the Holy Synod nominated him as Bishop of Dusseldorf. His episcopal consecration took place in October 1981.
He took part in the work of the World Council of Churches.
In 1989 he was elevated to the rank of archbishop. In October 1990 he was made member of the Synodal Commission for Reviving Religious and Moral Education and Charity.
From December 1992 Archbishop Longin was vicar of the Moscow Diocese and rector of the Patriarchal Church of the Protecting Veil in Dusseldorf.
In February 1995 he was appointed head of the newly-established Russian Orthodox Church Representation in Germany.
From 1999-2002 he headed the ROC Standing Delegation to the EEA.
