DECR Сhairman Meets with Bahraini Minister of Social Development

On December 9, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, met with Mr. Osama bin Saleh Al-Alawi, Minister of Social Development.

During the conversation, the Minister expressed joy over the visit of the hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church and noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain is a state where representatives of different religions live peacefully. Osama bin Saleh Al-Alawi also spoke about the activities of the Ministry he heads, which, among other things, provides assistance to religious communities represented in the country.

Metropolitan Anthony spoke about the unique Russian experience of interreligious dialogue and the activities of the Interreligious Council of Russia. The hierarch expressed gratitude for the opportunity for unimpeded celebration of divine services and rendering pastoral care to the Russian-speaking Orthodox population in the Kingdom, for the level of religious freedom maintained in the country and for good attitude on the part of state authorities.

Also discussed were other issues of mutual interest.
