The Melkite-Catholic Patriarch Youssef Absi received a representative of the Russian Orthodox Church
On October 28th, Patriarch Youssef Absi, the Melkite-Catholic Patriarch of Antioch, received the representative of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archimandrite Philip (Vasiltsev), at his residence in the historic center of the Syrian capital.
Archimandrite Philip addressed His Beatitude with words of gratitude for the opportunity to meet him in person, and also spoke about the history of the Representation of the Russian Church in Damascus and its activities. Patriarch Youssef Absi, for his part, thanked the guest for his visit and expressed hope to continue such fraternal communication.
During a lengthy discussion a wide range of questions had been discussed, among them were the cooperation with the Russian Orthodox Church, preservation of the Christian presence in the Middle East, and practical cooperation with the Representative Office.
At the end of the meeting Archimandrite Philip presented His Beatitude with an Arabic translation of the book of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' "Freedom and Responsibility," states the website of the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus.
