Metropolitan Hilarion speaks at Russian-Polish conference on Future of Christianity in Europe – the Role of Polish and Russian Churches and Nations
On November 29, 2013, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, leading a Russian Orthodox delegation to Warsaw with a blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, spoke at the Russian-Polish conference on “The Future of Christianity in Europe – the Role of the Polish and Russian Churches and Nations”.
The DECR chairman’s key-speech was devoted to the theme “New Challenges to Christendom: Prospects for Churches’ Joint Actions”.
Among key-speakers were also Archbishop-Metropolitan Jozef Michalik of Przemysl, president of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Henrik Muszynski, former Metropolitan of Gniezno and Primate of Poland, and Archbishop Jeremiah of Wroclaw-Szczecin, Polish Orthodox Church.
The conference discussed historical aspects of Russian-Polish relations, questions concerning the role of Russian and Polish Churches in social process and their contribution to the deepening of mutual understanding between the two nations.
