The Victory Day celebrated in the Holy Land

On May 9, the Trinity Cathedral of the ecclesiastical mission heralded to the City of Jerusalem by the festive chime the coming of the historical day - the Day of Victory over Nazi Germany.
On the festive day, the head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Archimandrite Alexander (Yelisov), assisted by the Mission’s secretary Hegumen Nikon (Golovko) and Deacon Makariy Petukhov, an REM cleric, served the thanksgiving followed by the office for the repose of the souls of millions people who gave their lives for the Victory and the freedom of the Russian people and the peoples of the whole world.
The congregation included parishioners of the Trinity Cathedral, sisters of the Gorneye Convent in Ein Karem who serve for the Mission, as well as numerous pilgrims from Russia.
On the festive day, the Office of Thanksgiving and the singing of liturgical hymns to the Lord God sung on the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War were celebrated in all the town churches of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in the Holy Land, the REM website reports.
Every year, the celebration of the victory over Nazism lasts in Israel and Palestine for several days: the 9th of May is preceded by a large number of solemn, festive mass events organized by Russian-speaking compatriots with the support of Russia’s diplomatic corps and friendly states. The Victory Day proper is traditionally marked by a mass procession along the main streets of Tel Aviv.
