Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk holds negotiations with head of the DECR of the Malankara Church

On May 11, 2022, negotiations were held in Paralimni, Cyprus, between Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, and the head of Malankara Church in India’s DECR, Metropolitan Zachariah Mar Nikolovos of America, co-chairman of the Commission for Dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Malankara Church. The meeting was held on the side-line of the session of the Orthodox Pre-Assembly of the World Council of Churches.

Participating in the meeting was also Hieromonk Stephan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations.

The sides discussed the current relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Malankara Church, noting that in recent years, they have been developing especially dynamically. Despite the restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic, in the period from 2020-2021 the work of the Commission for Bilateral Dialogue was not interrupted and the coordination of joint work took place in many areas.

Metropolitan Hilarion and Metropolitan Zachariah Mar Nikolovos exchanged views on the inter-Christian relations, the work of inter-Christian organizations and on other matters of mutual concern.
