Metropolitan Hilarion on how Orthodox Churches are helping refugees

The Russian Orthodox Church dioceses in the territory of Russia and their respective synodal establishments are giving enormous aid to refugees coming to the Russian territory fr om the zone of the continued armed confrontation. In addition, inflows of refugees have been hosted by other countries as well and the Moscow Patriarchate parishes in these countries are giving all possible charitable help to displaced people.

In this grave situation, these people are also receiving support fr om Local Orthodox Churches which carry out their service in countries that have given asylum to refugees, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate said on the air of “The Church and the World” TV program.

“Local Churches in these countries are very active in rendering charitable help to refugees”, he noted, “We are receiving information from the Polish Orthodox Church in which almost all her resources have been mobilized for helping refugees from Ukraine. We have received information from Moldavia wh ere the Orthodox Church of Moldova (self-governed Church, a part of the Moscow Patriarchate - ed.) is very actively involved in the help to refugee. The Romanian Orthodox Church is helping the refugees who have found themselves in the territory of Romania. In the Serbian Orthodox Church, funds have been raised and conveyed to His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kiev. I know that hierarchs of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus came to Poland to bring humanitarian aid to refugees and to meet with them”.

His Eminence Hilarion stated, “So, all the Local Orthodox Churches in the territories wh ere there are refugees in this or that way help them”.
