Your Holiness,
Please accept my heartfelt greetings on your 80th birthday!
From your youth you were called for the work of the ministry (Eph 4:12) to the Lord and neighbours. You were ordained to carry out the arduous Patriarchal service and become the spiritual father of the Ethiopian people who were illumined by the light of the Gospel in the times of first Christians. Showing unceasing concern for the Saviour-commanded unity (Jn 17:21), you took an active part in healing the long-standing schism in the Ethiopian Church and exerted considerable efforts to establish contacts with Christian communities all over the world. I appreciate Your Holiness’s attention to the activities of the Commission for Dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Church.
Providentially, our inter-church cooperation has received new impetus in the current dramatic circumstances for all the people of Ethiopia, especially the clergy and faithful of the Ethiopian Church, many of whom have become innocent victims of aggressive extremists. I believe that by the ardent prayers of all those calling upon the name of Christ, the Ethiopian land will again soon stretch out her hands unto God (Ps 68:31) and our work for His name's sake (1 Jn 2:12) will be crowned by good fruits.
May Christ the Chief Shepherd strengthen Your Holiness in carrying the Patriarchal cross and grant peace and prosperity unto your beloved flock.
