Your Holiness, beloved brother in Christ:

I am sending you my heartfelt greetings on the occasion of your 80^th birthday.

At a young age ordained and consecrated bishop, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ (2 Tim 2:3) you performed the demanding archpastoral ministry with the zeal for the glory of God and reverence, taking loving care of the flock entrusted to you.

The Lord called you to carry out the responsible Primatial service, which has been marked by many remarkable accomplishments, including the historic reunification of the Ethiopian Church in 2018 after many years of schism. The recent years have been a time of ongoing sorrowful ordeals for the Christians of Abyssinia. However, the higher truth bears unceasing witness that God is not mocked (Gal 6:7), as is convincingly confirmed by a new spiritual uplift in your multimillion-strong flock in and beyond Ethiopia.

I am heartily glad that the trust-based relationships, which have existed between our two Churches and peoples for many centuries, are actively developing today. In these trying times the Moscow Patriarchate will continue to render support to the Ethiopian Church, including within the framework of the Commission for the Bilateral Dialogue.
