Serbian Patriarch considers DECR multilingual news video programme as topical

In an interview given to the Russian journal “The International Affairs,” His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia spoke of the church’s presence in the media space. He referred to “the duty of the Church to monitor developments in mass media and adjust to new realities the format and ways of its mission to preach Christ Crucified and Risen.”

The Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church believes that there are no frontiers in the digital world. He said that a short while ago he had seen in social networks “an interesting programme in the Serbian language produced by the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations.”

“The Orthodox View” video programme is released on a regular basis in the Russian, English, Serbian, Greek, and Arabic languages.

“This educative and well-structured programme meets the interests of many people and deals with certain boundary phenomena,” His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije pointed out and continued to say:

“Along with solving educational and missionary tasks, we in our Church try to create a media system that would be helpful to a modern man surrounded by social networks. That is why the programme, which our sister Church is releasing in our native language, gives us valuable guidelines for the production of our own programmes as far as their nature and content are concerned.”
